Fueled By A Grassroots Movement And Ready to Continue The Critical Work Ahead |
While I never aspired to run for public office, my parents instilled in me from a young age the power of community, and the responsibility of service. When I see a need that I have the ability to address, I believe I have the obligation to step up. Our democracy is my passion, so when I saw our county government going in the wrong direction, losing public trust, I felt it was my duty to change it. In the 2020 election, we made history together in more ways than one when I became the first woman mayor of Miami-Dade County and was the first-ever county mayoral campaign to qualify for the ballot by petition – no easy feat in a county of 3 million people and a requirement of over 15,000 verified signatures. Two Miami-Dade County Schools Win Prestigious STEM Classroom Makeover Grant |

Coconut Palm K-8 Academy and Country Club Middle School are celebrating a remarkable achievement as they become two out of the five schools across Florida selected to each receive a Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) STEM Classroom Makeover Grant. This $50,000 grant, $100,000 grant total, will empower both schools to transform a classroom into an innovative learning space, igniting a passion for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) among their students. “We are ecstatic to be among the select group of schools chosen to receive FPL’s STEM Classroom Makeover Grant,” said Krista Senzig, Coconut Palm Magnet Lead Teacher. “This grant will empower our educators to create an immersive learning environment that inspires our students to dream big and pursue careers in STEM. The Miami Breakers FC 16U Girls team victory in the 2024 Florida State Cup was truly historic. Winning for the first time ever is a remarkable achievement demonstrating the hard work and commitment by the group of Miami girls and dedicated coaches. Led by Coaches Antonio Boada and Andres Mendoza, the march to the State Cup began following regular season that resulted in 33 wins, 8 losses and 5 ties.
