IGLTA
SPIRIT DAY
It should go without saying that LGBTQ+ youths deserve the same respect and safety as their peers. IGLTA joins the fight against bullying and harassment on Spirit Day, observed yesterday, 17 October. Starting as an act of compassion from a Canadian teenager, Brittany McMillan (she/her), after numerous instances of suicide among gay students like Tyler Clementi (he/him) due to peer harassment, this day aims to finally put an end to homophobic attacks experienced globally by young people. We join the call to promote a safer environment worldwide for LGBTQ+ youth and in offering support for the victims of homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying.
