Governor makes conservation priority in state’s future budget |
In December, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the proposed Fiscal 2024-25 Focus on Florida’s Future Budget, solidifying his commitment to support the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) mission to protect Florida’s natural resources. The budget will help provide Floridians with more opportunities to get outdoors and high-priority conservation items including coral reef restoration, derelict vessel removal and habitat restoration initiatives. The governor’s proposed budget includes over $11.3 million and three new positions for initiatives supporting “Go Outdoors Florida,” which is FWC’s official licensing and permitting operation for hunting and fishing across the state... SLOTH BEARS BORN AT ZOO MIAMI! |
At approximately 4:00AM, “Kematee,” a 4-year-old sloth bear, gave birth to a single cub in the secluded den area located behind her public habitat. Then, at approximately 9:30AM, she gave birth to a second cub! These are the first births for Kematee, who arrived at Zoo Miami in 2021 from the Philadelphia Zoo where she was born. The father is “Hank,” who is 11 years old and arrived at Zoo Miami in 2016 from the National Zoo in Washington D.C. where he was born. The newborns are also his first surviving cubs. Coral Gables was thoughtfully designed by George Merrick and his vision and city plan set a standard that still defines the tone and ambience of the City Beautiful today. Survey: Most Veterans Support Expanding Medical Cannabis Access |
A supermajority of veterans and members of their families support amending federal law so that V.A. doctors may issue medical cannabis authorizations, according to survey data compiled by researchers at Ohio State University.Investigators surveyed the attitudes of 315 active and veteran military personnel and 426 military family members.
