Welcome to the Museum's January newsletter! |
Dear subscribers,
We are happy to welcome 2024 with new hopes, exhibitions and cultural events.
In 2023, we actively participated in the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including the announcement of the winners of the "Kids for Human Rights" International Contest at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. Soon, we will showcase an exhibition featuring the 75 award-winning works. Additionally, we celebrated the eighth edition of Ambit at the Asia Society Center in Hong Kong, featuring over 30 artists from performance and happening disciplines created and performed in an improvised and choral way, in dialogue with the action painting of Cristobal Gabarron and the Taiwanese master Pang Jiun. Another highlight in was Gabarron's work in a special exhibition at the Ora Ora Gallery in Hong Kong. I must also highlight the exhibition that the Ora Ora Gallery in Hong Kong dedicated to Gabarron and the signing of the 10-year extension agreement for our Pilgrim Museum in Wesenberg, with Peter Wilmot Thompson and David Ng.
We start the year with energy, because on January 19th the Sculptura Festival #2 will open: With the participation of Cristobal Gabarron, through the 12 sculptures of the Permanent Collection of the European Parliament (Twelve European Muses) and 5 outdoor sculptures of the Siega Verde series in Brussels that will remain during 2024.
And many more activities that represent an opportunity to reflect, grow and implement new cultural projects that will contribute to the development of our community. In this edition of our newsletter, we are pleased to share with you the latest news, analyses and proposals that characterize the course of the coming months. We thank you for your continued support and trust. Together, we will move forward into a year full of shared projects and spaces.

CLOSING / 'Dream Bearers' exhibition |
Final days to visit the 'Dream Bearers' exhibition by Blas Miras, which provided a glimpse into the lives of those who defy societal norms and consequently find themselves on the margins. Through the figure of the 'fish-duck,' Miras not only captured the essence of the 'different' but also expanded his imaginative realm to advocate for second chances by creating sculptures using reclaimed materials such as wood or copper.

‘The Eloquence of Silence’
In this composition, two main figures capture the viewer's attention.
According to Gabarron's words, "this work addresses the powerful capacity of silences in human relationships." In 'The Eloquence of Silence,' two characters are depicted, one of whom directs words towards the other. At the center of the composition, a palpable energy is generated, conveying tension and blossoming, with love being the theme it alludes to. .

On the commemoration of Human Rights Day, the verdict of the "Kids for Human Rights" International Contest was revealed, an initiative by the Queen Sofia Children's Art Museum of the Gabarrón Foundation, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The main objective of the contest is to raise awareness about the importance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations on December 10, 1948. The Gabarron Foundation had the honor to announce, alongside activist Francisco Vera Manzanares and the Ambassador of Spain to the United Nations in Geneva, Aurora Díaz-Rato, and Ángel Carro-Castrillo, the results of the awarded drawings in the "HUMAN RIGHTS 75 YOUTH DIALOGUE" at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. An initiative designed to ensure active youth participation in the HR75 and in decision-making processes related to human rights.
The contest had a prestigious jury whose hard work was essential in the evaluation process. The panel included Francisco Vera Manzanares, activist from Colombia; Isobel Carro, Member of the Council of Open Earth Foundation in the United Kingdom; Khulekani Msweli, artist and activist from Eswatini; Aurora Díaz-Rato Revuelta, Ambassador of Spain to the United Nations in Geneva; Anna Karina Jardin, educator and artist from Kuala Lumpur; Tomás Paredes, art critic, and President of Honor of AICA Madrid; and the Spanish artist Cristobal Gabarrón, a passionate supporter and advocate of children's creativity.
After a thorough evaluation of 24,662 entries from 79 countries, the 75 finalists were announced, 25 per contest theme, along with the three winners for each theme, achieving the highest scores from the jury.
