Town prepares for 55th4th of July Celebration

The 55th annual Cutler Bay/Whispering Pines Fourth of July Celebration and Parade returns on Tuesday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. The highly popular event celebrating America’s independence always has drawn crowds in Cutler Bay. The Whispering Pines parade predates the incorporation of the town.Rod Gibson, communications manager for Cutler Bay, said he is excited about this year’s event. “The festivities will kick off with the highly anticipated Golf Cart Parade,” Gibson said. “We encourage all residents to participate by decorating their carts with red, white and blue. The University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine recently announced the appointment of neurosurgeon Ashish H. Shah, M.D. to the newly created position of Director of Clinical Trials and Translational Research in the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Brain Tumor Initiative (BTI). According to Ricardo J. An enthusiastic crowd of parents, children, teachers, community leaders and civil rights organizations came together on June 6 at the Sanctuary for Banned Books at Coral Gables Congregational Church to support recently challenged books in Florida. The book giveaway drew a standing room only crowd of more than 500 people.
