Welcome to the Museum's February newsletter! |
Dear colleagues and collaborators,
We begin this newsletter by celebrating the first anniversary of our permanent exhibition 'Gabarron without limits', which has renewed the museum’s collection.
This month, the almond blossom begins in Mula, a unique spectacle in Europe with its more than 21,000 hectares loaded with flowers where we cannot avoid remembering the beginning of the 'Ambit' project just two years ago, a project that was conceived in the heart of the Mula landscape in the hamlet of 'El Niño' in full bloom, reminding us of the close connection that Cristobal Gabarron has with his place of origin, the integral heritage, nature and the environment. Up to date, 8 editions have been carried out in 4 continents and 'Ambit' will continue its artistic and documentary journey around the planet until 2025.
In addition, we inaugurated the exhibition 'Kids For Human Rights', with the 75 winning drawings and a selection of drawings by kids from Mula. This itinerant project will take us to Geneva and other venues, continuing with the divulgation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through the eyes of children. An initiative that fills us with pride and reminds us of the importance of defending the fundamental principles that unite us as a society.
Throughout this month of February, you can visit in Brussels the international art exhibition 'Sculptura #2', where Cristobal Gabarron has 5 sculptures of 'Siega Verde', as well as the exhibition 'Art in Democracy', highlighting the 12 works of the sculptural group, 'Twelve European Muses', exhibited outside the European Parliament for the first time since 1993. An exhibition that underlines the importance of the collection founded by Simone Veil in 1980, promoting the values, purposes and ambitions of the European Union.
I would like to emphasize our commitment to the city of Mula, which is one of the cradles of Cristobal Gabarron's inspiration. The museum is not only a cultural space, but also a vital link between art and the community. We are proud to be a connected museum, facilitating interconnection with other localities and strengthening the ties that bind us together, regionally, nationally and internationally.
We thank you for your support and wish you a happy reading. Sincerely yours,
Cris Gabarron Director of the Cristobal Gabarron Museum

NEW LUNAR YEAR / ‘Year of the Dragon’ |
February 10 | New Lunar Year
|
On Saturday, February 10, the Chinese New Year will begin. The celebration is spread throughout Asia as New Lunar Year.
The Cristobal Gabarron Museum would like to wish all visitors, especially friends from Asia, a prosperous Chinese New Year:
祝你春节快乐 顺利的龙年
We pay tribute to cultural diversity and celebrate the ability of art to unite us with China. We are connected to China, and we recall here the 16 exhibitions held of public art in squares, universities and museums, as well as workshops with children, permanent work in several cities, and lectures at universities by Cristobal Gabarron, as well as the presence of the Gabarron Foundation in Asia since 2016. In the attached link we invite you to view the book online for free.
The attached image is our greeting for this Chinese New Year of the Dragon, and it is inspired by the details of the mural work of the last edition of Ambit celebrated at the Asia Society Center in Hong Kong (we recommend to watch its beautiful documentary by Idris Ho), China, with the interaction of more than 30 local artists with Gabarron and the master Pang Jiun. .

On January 24th took place in Valladolid the screening of the documentary 'Eyes of a dream' of the 'Ambit' project held in Santiniketan. The Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero, and the Ambassador of India in Spain, Dinesh K. Patnaik, accompanied us in an event, where Cristobal Gabarron, the dancer and choreographer Monica de la Fuente, along with Guillermo Rodriguez, director of Casa de la India, accompanied us on a visual and sound journey to the emblematic Visva Bharati University of Santiniketan, founded by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Gabarron Pilgrim Museum / Germany |
The aim of the Pilgrim Museum exhibition proposal by the artist Cristobal Gabarron is to extend the Cristobal Gabarron Museum in Mula beyond its borders, taking our collection out of the museum and extending it to other places. In his characteristic nomadic sense, his work transcends geographical borders.
The Pilgrim Museum has 25 sculptures in the open-air park as well as a selection of paintings in the galleries of its art centre.
The Skulpturenpark Wesenberg is located 100 kilometres north of Berlin.

'Flowers against bombs' / Painting
|
Technical data: 'Flowers against bombs', 300 x 900 cm. mixed media, acrylic on canvas. Cristobal Gabarron.
|
‘Flowers against bombs’ In 2022 during the flowering of Mula a total of eight creators made improvised artistic interventions in an action painting that has converged with both performance and happening actions. It is the materialization of a collaborative work, as a result of the interaction of a group of intellectuals, writers, artists, researchers, thinkers, naturalists, biologists, journalists and activists.
Gabarron used color and movement to capture the beauty and feel of the flower in this work of art created in front of the viewer's eyes. Nature often inspires artists and this creation is an example of how its beauty can be translated into art. Gabarron captured on the canvas the emotions of that habitat, with all the participants, of that specific moment and expressed his concern for the environment and the war that had begun just 36 hours earlier in Ukraine.

WORKSHOP / Blas Miras / Closing of the exhibition 'Dream Bearers'
|
|
|
Friday 12th January was the closing of the exhibition of the artist Blas Miras 'Portadores de sueños' with the students of the Artistic Baccalaureate of the IES San Juan de la Cruz who held a workshop in the museum with the artist. The day focused on teaching creative methods and the use of various materials, providing the students with an opportunity to expand their artistic skills. Under the tutelage of Blas Miras, students immersed themselves in techniques that explore the intersection between artistic theory and practice. In addition, the experience was enriched by a guided tour of the museum, which allowed participants to immerse themselves in the exhibitions currently on display, featuring works by Cristobal Gabarron.

Javier Gómez de Segura, PhD | Professor of Sculpture at the University of Murcia

|
We are pleased to share a special moment in our community, as we received the visit of the outstanding professor of Fine Arts of the University of Murcia, Javier Gómez de Segura. On this occasion, the professor guided us through an in-depth analysis of the installation 'Skins', part of the new permanent collection 'Gabarron Limitless'.
With his perspective and experience in the art world, Professor Gómez de Segura led us to discover the layers of meaning and expression present in this installation. The fusion of Gabarron's creativity and Dr. Gomez de Segura's insightful analysis have converged into an enriching experience that heightened our appreciation for artistic language and the diversity of cultural expressions.
