WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE “OUT OF NETWORK” IN REGARDS TO YOUR TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Purchasing travel insurance has been a simple decision for those looking to experience international travel in 2022. Many travel insurance policies have helped consumers with canceled trips, lost luggage, or unexpected medical bills. Further, due to the possibility of contracting COVID-19 during international travel, providers have adjusted their offerings to ensure that you can receive medical care and isolate appropriately. While travel insurance has slowly evolved to be more efficient, there still remains some complexities with being “out-of-network.” Aside from the long list of exemptions that may complicate a customer’s travel insurance policy, receiving care outside the trusted network of your provider can be a costly endeavor. Before your next international vacation, understand your policy’s limitations, including the financial costs of receiving care out of the provider’s network. |
LGBTQ+ TRAVEL GUIDE TO JAPAN
Japan is a fascinating county, rich in culture, tradition, exotic beaches and boasting one of the most famous cuisines in the world. The Japanese are very welcoming, eager to please and well mannered. Every greeting comes with a bow, a smile and a willingness to help you, whether English is spoken or not. For this reason, it is a very easy country for LGBTQ+ travelers. There is an LGBTQ+ scene in the big cities, especially in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo. The capital also has its own gay pride event called Tokyo Rainbow Pride in April or May. LGBTQ+ travelers are sure to fall in love with Japan, its culture, food and especially its warm-hearted people. With Japan finally reopening its borders slowly post-pandemic, now just might be the time to start planning a trip. |
HAPPY (BELATED) NON-BINARY PEOPLE'S DAY!
This past 14 July was International Non-Binary People's Day. The term "non-binary" refers to persons whose gender identification does not sit comfortably into the categories of "man" or "woman." Non-binary individuals may believe that their gender identity and gender experience entail being both a man and a woman, or that it is fluid, in the middle, or wholly outside of that binary. Non-binary identities tend to go very unseen because our society is structured in a way that constantly reinforces the gender binary. This can make them feel unheard and invisible and this can often lead to anxiety, depression and other forms of mental illness.

RAINBOW ROAD TRIP: THE ULTIMATE GREEN MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE
Every June, the LGBTQ+ community and our allies rally around the pride flag, display our queerness with rainbow-hued bric-a-brac, and take to the streets and social media to make our voices heard. But genuine pride—which lasts 365 days per year—is a bit more elusive. We fall back into the daily grind, often forgetting the shoulders upon which we stand. Few destinations throughout the United States have been as progressive, welcoming, and humble about their LGBTQ+ heritage and presence as the picturesque state of Vermont. Well, pack a weekender: it's time to head to the green mountain state.
