Welcome to the Museum's March newsletter! |
Dear fellow art and culture lovers:
This month we inaugurate a new section, Liasons, dedicated to connecting us with other art cities, through their protagonists and museums, who will bring us their particular perspectives, such as that of the celebrated thinker, art critic and poet Donald Kuspit on the current art scene in New York City or the recommendation of Jay A. Levenson, director of the International Program at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, of one of the iconic works in his collection, "Head of a warrior" by Picasso, a key piece in the magnificent exhibition "Plaster" that can be seen in this extraordinary temple of art that is MoMA.
As director of our museum, it is an honor for me to share with you the closing of the exhibition 'Kids for Human Rights' in Mula, which is now preparing to move to other enclaves, such as Geneva, and we make way to the next exhibition 'The Spirit of Dreams' by the French artist and art thinker Frédéric Ballester, which invites us to reflect on the human condition and the fate of the modern world.
We continue with other ongoing activities in #museoconectado (#connectedmuseum), an initiative to bring art and culture closer to everyone, even beyond the walls of our museum. Therefore we highlight the exhibition of the 'Siega Verde' series in Brussels and the 'Pilgrim Museum' in Wesenberg.
All of this is a continuous inspiration for us that we wish to share with you, as well as with the rest of the news related to our educational work and projects in progress.
I do not want to conclude without suggesting you to not miss the video of the poetic performance by Carlos Aganzo, Ernesto Monsalve and Helena García Hidalgo, in front of the mural "Cain Altarpiece" within the section "Artwork of the month".
Thank you for your continuous support and commitment to our mission. I hope to see you soon in this meeting space generated by our family of foundations from the Cristobal Gabarron Museum.
Sincerely yours,
Cris Gabarron Cabero Director of the Cristobal Gabarron Museum

CLOSING / Exhibition #Kids4HumanRights |
On March 10, we had the closing of the "Kids for Human Rights" exhibition. Throughout these weeks, we have been inspired by the 75 finalist drawings of the international competition "Kids for Human Rights". As well as by the works of the participants from the local schools of Mula: Florentino Bayona, Santa Clara and Cristo Crucificado. Through their drawings they have addressed vital issues such as equality, justice and freedom of expression, offering perspectives on how they see and experience the world around them.

CLOSING / Art in Democracy |
On March 10th, 'Art in Democracy' comes to an end, in the framework of this festival, the 12 works of Gabarron's sculpture collection, Twelve European Muses (1991), will leave the European Parliament for the first time since 1993. This exhibition highlights the collection founded in 1980 by the first democratically elected president of the institution, Simone Veil. The European Parliament's Contemporary Art Collection strives to embody the values and aspirations of the European Union, integrating itself into a broader context that ensures the defense of democracy by contemporary European artists.

The Cristobal Gabarron Museum is not restricted to the walls of its headquarters in Mula, but also like the artist that gives its name, it is characterized by its nomadic spirit. The divulgation of the work we do moves beyond its geographical boundaries, reaching different parts of our planet.

New section: LIASONS | New York |
The new section, which we call LIASONS, seeks to establish connections with the art world in different cities around the world, through its real protagonists, artists, critics, curators, directors of museums, biennials, etc... helping us discover all kinds of art and perspectives.
To do so, we have decided to start with New York City, capital of the world of art, connecting with two unique voices and perspectives of leading figures, such as thinker, art critic and poet Donald Kuspit, and the director of MoMA's international program, Jay A. Levenson. We hope you enjoy the new section.

|
Jay A. Levenson, director of the international program at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, introduces us to one of the iconic works from the museum's great collection, Picasso's "Head of a warrior", and a key piece in the magnificent “Plaster” exhibition on view at MoMA's extraordinary temple of art (Gallery 516).
Find out some highlights of this exhibition and it's relevance to the sculptors from many generations.

Donald Kuspit (NYC, 1935) is one of the most distinguished art critics in the United States. An art thinker and poet, he is well known for his practice of psychoanalytic art criticism, having published extensively on avant-garde aesthetics, postmodernism, modern art, and conceptual art. Today he continues to write regularly for Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art and ArtForum, without giving up once on his passion for poetry.
In this video, he talks about the New York art scene, its current trends, young artists, as well as "politically correct" art trends, among other interesting opinions.

CONNECTED MUSEUM EXHIBITIONS |
'Siega Verde' Installation. Tour & Taxis, Brussels (Belgium). Photography: Rose Rongac
|
Five sculptures from the series 'Siega Verde' by Cristobal Gabarron, remain on display in Brussels, specifically in the spaces of Tour & Taxis and the ‘Migratie Museum Migration’, until December 2024. This series is inspired by the Paleolithic site of Siega Verde in Salamanca, recognized by UNESCO as exceptional in Iberian Paleolithic art, these works capture the essence of a prehistoric past that has fascinated the artist since he was young. The series reflects his constant exploration of prehistoric themes throughout his career, as witnessed in other series such as 101 Stones, Prints, The silence of Stones, My epicurean garden and The birth of time.

TWORKSHOP / Blas Miras / Anita Arnao School through the Gabarron Method
|
|
|
On February 23rd, the Anita Arnao School collaborated with the Cristοbal Gabarrοn Museum as part of the realization of visits and workshops for second grade students. About 50 children participated in activities inspired by the temporary exhibition Kids for Human Rights, using the Gabarrοn Method. This method uses art as a tool to promote creativity, personal development and integral education of children. Through various techniques and materials, we seek to stimulate the imagination, promote personal expression and cultivate cognitive and emotional skills. We would like to thank the teachers and the Anita Arnao School for their commitment to raising awareness through art. This collaboration demonstrates how art and education can come together to inspire and empower future generations.

A couple of weeks ago we received a visit from the director of Anita Arnao School, Juan Fernandez, who shared with us his enthusiasm for the 'Anitarte' program which aims to establish a strong link between students and art, thus enriching their educational experience. The presence of the Anita Arnao School in our museum not only highlights its commitment to integral education, but also its interest in creating appreciation and understanding of art among the youngest. We sincerely thank Juan and the entire Anita Arnao School team for their collaboration and dedication in promoting culture and knowledge in our community.
