The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero is continuing to explore a requirement for energy projects to bring community benefit. DESNZ has been meeting with a number of local representatives. Up until now it's been impossible to see how Scottish Power & National Grid are contributing to benefit local communities. SASES continues to argue that Scottish Power & National Grid's proposals at Friston are dangerous and this is a more important issue that has to be addressed. But specifically on community benefit:
How do SPR & National Grid propose to benefit local people living next door to substations and convertor stations?
1. In terms of physical benefit, significant sums would be needed to offset the damage poorly devised projects will have on landscapes & coastal habitats.
2. Financial benefit must be generous and aimed directly at the local communities most affected by onshore development if residents are to feel less negative about energy projects.
