Budget for Growth

New India, on the growth trajectory, is estimated to be fastest-growing economy in 2021 according to IMF. Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs. presented India’s first paperless Union Budget on February 1, 2021. The Budget focussed on growth and will play a critical role in facilitating strong and inclusive economic recovery post the pandemic.

The Government announced a host of measures to spur economic activity, including the formation of a ‘bad bank’. Further, it was announced that an Asset Reconstruction Company (ARC) and Asset Management Company (AMC) will be set up to consolidate and take over the existing stressed debt and then manage and dispose the assets to alternate investment funds and other potential investors for eventual value realization.

The proposed measures will make the Indian stressed assets sector even more attractive for investors around the world. The ARC and AMC will help improve balance sheets of banks and simultaneously provide lucrative investment opportunities to investors.
