New India- Enhancing EoDB in Stressed Assets Opportunities

Stressed assets in India are witnessing interest from major investors across the world as quality assets are now available at attractive prices. In a move to enhance the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP), RBI Governor Mr. Shaktikanta Das met senior officials of public and private sector banks to discuss progress of the implementation of resolution framework for COVID-19 related stressed assets.

The Government of India has been taking progressive steps to facilitate investments in stress segments such as infrastructure, construction, mining, metals, and gems & jewellery. Due to continuous reforms and proactive initiatives taken by the government, India is now amongst the best performing countries in South Asia in handling insolvency cases and achieving high recovery rates.

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has extended the suspension of insolvency proceedings initiation against corporates for debt defaults by another 3 months from 25th December 2020 to 25th March 2021. With the recent extension, the government has been able to ensure that any corporate debt defaults arising between 25th March 2020 and 25th March 2021 will remain outside the IBC.
