POCA Auricular Acu-Technician Training
Tucson Acupuncture Co-op (TACO) just hosted the third-ever POCA Auricular Acu-Technician Training as a four-day immersive event and it was awesome! Ellen Vincent, Cate Maxon, and C Cotter trained 16 non-acupuncturists to use the 5 Needle Protocol (5NP) for substance use disorders and trauma.
In Arizona, POCA AATs who have completed all of their training requirements can apply for an Auricular Acupuncture Certificate in order to practice under the general supervision of an L.Ac. in an approved Chemical Dependency Program (CDP). (Backyard Healthcare Project, the nonprofit behind TACO, is an approved CDP). The trainees are planning on using this tool in healthcare practices, community work, and support groups after they have their certificates in hand and have found a supervising acupuncturist/CDP. Cate and C are in training to be POCA AAT Trainers themselves and we will likely be planning another training in Tucson within the next six months!
